The general objective is to determine the influence of gamification on student learning, as well as to understand, identify, and analyze how gamification is developed academically. The project's justification seeks to understand how gamification fosters participatory attitudes in students, promoting meaningful and effective learning. Gamification is highlighted as a set of innovative tools or software that seek ways to convert the learning process into an adaptable and encouraging experience. The methodology is descriptive with a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, based on collecting information that supports educational theory and practice. The proposed techniques and instruments include bibliographical consultation and surveys, which direct the research to a collection of detailed and accurate information. The results obtained from the survey data indicate that educational strategies that incorporate gamification as an educational tool optimize the understanding of academic content and promote student motivation. This indicates that gamification is an effective learning technique for fostering the development of educational content. In conclusion, the implementation of gamification in education is recommended, given that it has proven beneficial for improving the learning and concentration of students in the P.C.E.I. program from April to September 2023.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7334 Study of honey plants in an apiary in Buena Vista, Colón province 2025-05-29T14:59:05+00:00 Vielka Murillo vielka.murillo@up.ac.pa Elizabeth Morales P. yetzelm14@gmail.com
A key aspect of beekeeping is understanding the plants that grow around apiaries and determining which ones will be beneficial to bees. These plants are called honey plants because bees obtain nectar from their flowers, which they then convert into honey for various tasks in the hive. Despite Panama's high diversity of flowering plants, very little research has been done on honey plants. Therefore, the objective of this study was to understand the honey plants associated with the apiary of the Experimental Farm of the Agricultural Research Institute (IDIAP), located in Buena Vista, Colón province, in a stubble cover. The methodology consisted of weekly sampling (collections) of flowering plants during peak bee foraging hours (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) along a linear transect 90 m long and 1 m wide. The collected plants were photographed, identified, and compared at the University of Panama Herbarium. As a result of this study, 23 species were identified, distributed across 23 genera and 14 families. The most representative families, according to the number of individuals, were: Asteraceae (4 species) (Baltimora recta, Emilia sonchifolia, Melanthera nivea, Synedrella nodiflora), Fabaceae (4 species) (Centrosema pubescens, Erythrina fusca, Mimosa pudica, Senna pallida), Malvaceae (2 species) (Luehea seemannii, Sida acuta), Anacardiaceae (2 species) (Anacardium excelsum, Spondias mombin), and Acanthaceae (2 species) (Ruellia blechum, Justicia secunda). The herbaceous habit represented 38%, the tree habit 26%, the shrub habit 22%, and the vine habit 13%. This study also provides valuable information on the flowering periods of the identified honey-producing species. Without a doubt, this study revealed a diversity of plants with honey-producing potential that should be conserved long-term.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/6994 A transdisciplinary vision for reforming education. Autonomy and core curriculum 2025-03-15T16:23:38+00:00 Giampiero Finocchiaro figipi@gmail.com
This article discusses the need for transdisciplinary educational reform to adapt education to contemporary needs, promoting identity-based processes based on a transdisciplinary approach linked to complexity theory. The article examines the aspects most frequently receiving reform attention: the curriculum that defines the curriculum and teaching methodologies. It is suggested that a change of mentality be fostered by updating education according to a transdisciplinary perspective that allows for a revolution in the concept of curriculum by reducing it to a central core. An innovative core curriculum model is proposed. This model involves concentrating on two languages and two disciplines characterized by their universal nature and the use of a polyglot approach necessitated by contemporary complexity. To achieve this profound change, it is absolutely necessary to grant, introduce, and promote strong autonomy to educational institutions that must carry out pedagogical action centered on identity. Furthermore, it is necessary to change the way universities train and make school teams more complex to create a new common language among disciplines.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7654 Effective Strategies in Educational Gamification to Enhance Learning in the city of Babahoyo 2025-07-08T17:47:56+00:00 Gloria Adelina Morán Murillo gmoranm@utb.edu.ec Guillermo Emanuel Landívar Morán guillerlanmor2@gmail.com Bismar Ariel Conde Arteaga bisariconde2@gmail.com
This study examines the effectiveness of various gamification strategies in educational settings to enhance student learning in Babahoyo, Ecuador. The primary objective is to identify which gamification elements, such as rewards, challenges, and point systems, have a significant impact on motivation and academic performance. A mixed-method research design was employed, combining surveys of 200 students and semi-structured interviews with 20 educators. The results indicate that gamification, when implemented correctly, can increase intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, thereby improving academic performance. However, limitations such as the lack of technological resources and the time required to design gamified activities were also identified. It is concluded that gamification can be a powerful tool in education, provided it is tailored to meet the specific needs of students and used in conjunction with traditional teaching methods.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7397 Student perspective on the importance of optimization in personnel selection processes using mathematical 2025-05-30T17:29:47+00:00 Amy Arosemena amy.arosemena@up.ac.pa
From the student’s perspective, the implementation of mathematical algorithms in personnel selection processes improves efficiency, reduces bias, and increases objectivity in decision- making. This technological tool enables a selection based on data and quantifiable criteria, representing a significant advancement compared to traditional methods. The analysis of this approach highlights its positive impact on the quality of hires and organizational development. The purpose of this study is to analyze the importance of optimizing personnel selection processes through the use of mathematical algorithms, assessing how they influence the efficiency of the process, the objectivity in candidate evaluation, and the alignment with job requirements from a student perspective. It also seeks to raise awareness about the role of technological tools in transforming human resource processes. A structured survey was applied to fourteen (14) third- and fourth-year students of the Mathematics Bachelor's Program at the University of Panama to collect data on their perceptions regarding the use of algorithms in personnel selection. The data collection and analysis will focus on describing and quantifying students' perceptions on this topic. It was evident that the majority of participants believe that algorithms can significantly contribute to reducing bias in the selection process, reflecting a clear understanding of the benefits of applying technological tools to mitigate human subjectivity. This perception aligns with the view that digitalization can promote fairer, data-driven decision-making

2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7535 Fundamentals of the logical-comparative method and its application in legal research 2025-06-26T01:13:33+00:00 Eira Lee eira.lee@up.ac.pa
The logical-comparative method is an essential tool in legal research, facilitating the analysis of norms and institutions by identifying similarities and differences between legal systems. This is crucial for a deep understanding of law and for proposing legislative reforms and harmonization. However, doubts persist regarding its logical foundation and its scope in the construction of legal knowledge. The objective of this study was to examine the logical foundation of this method and its usefulness in legal research. The aim was to understand its scope and improve its application in comparative law, elucidating whether it is based more on formal or rational logic. The research employed a qualitative approach, conducting a documentary and analytical study. Secondary sources such as legal literature and doctrines were reviewed, using content analysis to identify theoretical positions on the method. A theoretical comparison and an argumentative synthesis were then conducted to integrate the findings and establish its usefulness and limitations. A key finding revealed that the logical- comparative method in legal research is predominantly based on reasonable (practical/informal) logic, rather than formal logic. Reasonable logic allows arguments to be evaluated in real-life contexts, considering historical, cultural, and social factors. This is essential for a flexible and contextual interpretation and application of norms, allowing for a deeper understanding and effective adaptation of the law in diverse legal systems, as evidenced by the evolution of constitutional review in Panama.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7413 Digitization in the student information management of CAIPI at the University of Panama 2025-06-03T17:03:24+00:00 Ricardo Vargas ricardo.vargasj@up.ac.pa Saulo Aizprúa-A. saulo.aizprua@up.ac.pa Cindy Esquivel cindy.esquivel@up.ac.pa Jorge Luis Delgado jorge.delgado-b@up.ac.pa
The objective is to evaluate the digitalization in the management of student information at the Comprehensive Early Childhood Care Center (CAIPI) of the University of Panama. This study aims to assess the structural and urban impact of the San Miguelito cable car project, comparing it with successful cases in other Latin American cities, to determine its feasibility and relevance in the Panamanian context. An exhaustive review of the existing literature on urban cable cars was conducted, and official documents issued by the Government of Panama were analyzed. A qualitative comparative methodology was used to contrast the expected results of the San Miguelito cable car with those observed in similar projects in Medellín, Colombia, and La Paz, Bolivia. The findings indicate that the cable car could significantly improve connectivity, reduce social exclusion, and promote local economic development, although it faces challenges in terms of financial sustainability and adaptation to local conditions. The study concludes that, while the San Miguelito cable car has great potential to transform urban mobility and social development in the region, its success will depend on careful planning, community participation, and integration with other forms of transport, as well as attention to the geographic and socioeconomic particularities of the area.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7655 Accounting jurisdiction in Panama. 2025-07-08T17:52:01+00:00 Joel Enrique Caballero Lezcano joel.caballero-l@up.ac.pa Alan Ariel Aguilar-Pinto Alan.aguilar@up.ac.pa
Panama, historically positioned as a strategic enclave for international trade and finance, has experienced notable economic growth in recent decades. However, this prosperity has not led to an equitable distribution of wealth, fostering an environment conducive to the misuse of public resources, which is susceptible to corruption. The objective of this study is to analyze the phenomenon of corruption that distorts the Panamanian economy and society by undermining trust in public institutions. To this end, a qualitative and descriptive methodology was adopted, complemented by an explanatory correlational approach, which allowed for the examination of specific cases and patterns of embezzlement and misuse of state resources by individual and collective actors. The results show that the increase in corruption has evolved in parallel with economic growth, negatively impacting public administration and social well-being. The urgent need to establish stricter sanctions and effectively enforce the current legal framework as a deterrent to corrupt practices is underscored. In conclusion, although Panama has made substantial economic progress, its consolidation as an equitable and sustainable society depends critically on strengthening transparency and a determined fight against corruption at all levels of government.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7104 Advertising photography and cultural identity: 2025-04-14T17:40:30+00:00 Armando Amed De La Rosa-Petit armando.delarosa@up.ac.pa Bladimir Enrique Cedeño Vega bladimir.cedeno@up.ac.pa
This study aimed to conduct a critical analysis of the representation of the Afro-descendant population in Panamanian advertising still photography, exploring both its visual patterns and its sociocultural implications. A qualitative methodological approach was adopted, using focus groups as the main data collection technique. This strategy allowed for an in-depth and contextual understanding of how different social sectors in Panama perceive and interpret advertisements featuring Afro-descendant individuals. Focus groups were composed through purposive sampling, ensuring sociocultural diversity among participants. Selected advertisements served as visual prompts for collective discussions that explored shared meanings, discursive tensions, and lived experiences related to ethnic-racial representation in visual media. The findings reveal a predominantly stereotypical and functionalist portrayal of the Afro-descendant population, frequently associated with physical labor and subordinate roles. A symbolically forced inclusion was identified, lacking cultural authenticity and community identification, and reflecting the persistence of racialized visual imaginaries. These patterns affect both the self-image and the social imagination of Afro-descendants, limiting their visibility in leadership or success-oriented roles. The collective dynamic of focus groups enabled a deeper understanding of the emotional and symbolic resonance of these representations. As a result, the study proposes guidelines for more ethical, inclusive, and culturally informed visual communication, aiming to transform the symbolic frameworks that govern advertising in Panama.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/5061 Syntactic maturity. 2024-05-13T03:14:36+00:00 Maritza Almendas-Bravo almendas1966@gmail.com
Syntactic maturity refers to a speaker's ability to produce complex sentences through appropriate use of grammatical rules and the combinatorial process of language elements. This topic is of great relevance in linguistic studies today given its scope in measuring syntactic maturity and the level of syntactic complexity exhibited by language users in written production. Therefore, this article aims to examine the state of the art on syntactic maturity and its methodological evolution. To fulfill the research objective, documentary analysis was used, specifically using the databases Google Scholar, Scielo, Dialnet, Redalyc, marcoELE, ReGrOC, Redalyc, Academia Edu, virtual libraries, and university repositories, among others. The research reveals an extensive bibliography related to studies of syntactic maturity, especially in primary and secondary school students. All of these studies applied the syntactic maturity indicators established by Kellogg Hunt, with some variations incorporated by the researchers, such as profession, discursive mode, and time spent online. Similarly, the studies show that syntactic maturity is directly related to an individual's level of education. It is important to note that the research reviewed only addresses written production, not oral discourse, a task that remains open for future research.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/4385 Contributions of information and communication technologies in the formative assessment of the subject of natural sciences in primary education CONTRIBUTIONS OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE SUBJECT OF NATURAL SCIENCES IN PRIMARY EDUCATION 2023-10-25T00:32:03+00:00 Heidy Yojana González Pardo heidy-y.gonzalez-p@up.ac.pa Diana Maria Bastidas Arandia diana-m.bastidas-a@up.ac.pa Yeny Gamba Mateus yeny-l.gamba-m@up.ac.pa
The objective of this article is to analyze how Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) help to promote the development of formative evaluation in the subject of natural sciences in primary education. This model integrates the theories of Cohen and Levinthal (1990), Davis (1989), and Grefen et al. (2019), proposing a conceptual framework based on three fundamental variables: Logistical Competencies (LC), Technological Readiness (TR), and Perception of Trends and Future Challenges (TF). The study aims to bridge the gap between academia and the labor market through a solid and structured theoretical-conceptual approach that links education with the strategic use of technological tools. These tools are grouped into four key categories: operational automation (robotics, autonomous vehicles, digital twins), integrated management (ERP, WMS, TMS), traceability and monitoring (RFID, barcodes, real-time systems), and advanced analytics (big data, artificial intelligence, IoT, and blockchain). Proper implementation of these technologies not only optimizes operational efficiency and decision-making but also enables the adaptation of logistical processes to highly dynamic and demanding environments. Furthermore, the perception of trends and future challenges is established as a critical competency in logistics education, as it allows for anticipating transformations in the current business environment and developing more efficient strategies. The interrelationship between these variables is essential, as it strengthens students' preparedness to face digital transformation scenarios and strategic challenges across various business sectors. In conclusion, TECLOG represents a key contribution to logistics education, aligning training with the current dynamics of sector management and operations.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita https://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/orbis_cognita/article/view/7000 Strategies for teaching reading and writing: A systematic review on training new educators using VosViewer 2025-04-17T00:20:29+00:00 Brizeida Hernández Sánchez brizeida.hernandez@udelas.ac.pa Berenice Carrera de Vallejos berenice.carrera@up.ac.pa
The article analyses teacher training strategies in reading and writing skills in higher education, based on a systematic review of the scientific literature. Various studies have shown that play is intrinsically linked to human development and evolution at all stages of life (Vygotsky, 1978; Piaget, 1962). However, at school age, it takes on a fundamental role, as it constitutes one of the main forms of exploration and construction of knowledge in children (Bruner, 1983). In this context, the purpose of this study is to analyze various play strategies as pedagogical tools to strengthen learning in children between 5 and 10 years old. The main objective of this research is to search, review, classify, and analyze recent articles and research that address play as a teaching strategy in primary education. The aim is to establish how playful activities contribute to improved learning by promoting students' cognitive, social, and emotional development (Huizinga, 1955; Moyles, 2015). Qualitative research techniques were used, such as a review of specialized literature on play and its impact on teaching processes, the development of cognitive skills, and the formation of moral and social values. To understand the state of the art regarding play as a learning tool, research, selection, and analysis of research and articles addressing the use of playful strategies in primary education were carried out. The findings indicate that there are multiple perspectives on the use of play as a teaching strategy, highlighting the need to further explore its application to optimize learning in early childhood education.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Científica Orbis Cógnita
