The sample consisted of 225 individuals, without sex discrimination, ranging in age from 6 to 70 years old. The results show a certain dimorphism in the average size of the epidermal ridges among the adult population in the Nasos and Bribri, Gnägbe and Buglé ethnic groups. A new paleodermatographic reference model (YDG) is validated for the analysis of archaeological materials in the Colombian Isthmus cultural region.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/6953Impact of Virtual Education on the cognitive skills of Higher Education students2025-02-27T04:28:34+00:00Maribel Rangelmrangelm@unmsm.edu.peVíctor Eduardo Bendezú Hernándezvicbendezu@upt.peMeliza Nelly Ramos Bravomnramosbr@ucvvirtual.edu.peArístides Alfonso Tejada Aranaaristejada@sanmarcelo.edu.pe
The study carried out on English students in a higher education school explores how the virtual modality affects cognitive development in English learning. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, a sample of 40 students was examined, through a questionnaire on the perception of the quality of virtual education and cognitive skills assessments. The methodology developed was a correlational quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The results highlight that a large majority of students value the virtual education system positively, and a similar proportion show effective cognitive competencies in English. This study illustrates the close link between the quality of virtual education and the strengthening of essential language skills, showing that when implemented correctly, virtual education can be a powerful tool to improve English learning in academic contexts. In conclusion, this paper highlights the importance and effectiveness of adapting innovative teaching methods to respond to contemporary educational needs.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/6985The Curriculum Versus Multiculturalism in Panamanian Higher Education2025-03-10T17:08:05+00:00Doralis J. Herrera Jaéndoralis.herrera@up.ac.pa
University higher education is home to people from diverse cultures, a phenomenon intensified by globalization. Panama does not escape from this phenomenon as it is a multicultural country. With the objective of evaluating the perception of students and professors on the attention to multiculturalism in the curriculum of the bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Panama, Regional University Center of Azuero, this non-experimental, descriptive, and transversal study was conducted. A survey was applied to forty-five students and 14 professors. The respondents perceive that not enough attention is paid to multiculturalism and that there is no active participation between cultures. In addition, they point out shortcomings in the related areas. Therefore, they suggest implementing multicultural strategies in the explicit training curriculum, to be successful in the planning and development of the curriculum in the classroom.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/6706Musical analysis of the work Fantasia “De la Noche” op.33, by the Panamanian composer Natanael Mojica2025-01-08T01:40:58+00:00Gerardo Pinto Arciagerardo.pinto@up.ac.pa
This study investigates the historical and musical background that led the Panamanian composer Natanael Mojica to create the work "Fantasía 'De la Noche' op. 33" for trombone and piano. The interpretative and stylistic context is analyzed, as well as the musical resources employed, contributing to the Latin American compositional literature. A qualitative approach was adopted, using semi-structured interviews with Mojica, a comprehensive literature review on the history of the trombone and Panamanian music, and a musical analysis of the work. The interviews provided information about the composer's influences and creative process. The findings reveal that the work combines elements of classical sonata form with modern harmonies, reflecting the duality of the night. Distinctive rhythmic and harmonic patterns were identified that enrich the repertoire of the trombone as a solo instrument. The "Fantasía 'De la Noche'" represents a significant contribution to the Panamanian trombone repertoire, highlighting Mojica's compositional innovation and opening the door to future research on the evolution of contemporary Latin American music.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7306Breaking Chains 2025-05-21T00:13:50+00:00Alejandra Ochoa Rodríguezalejandra_ochoa@uaeh.edu.mxKarina Pizarro Hernándezpizarro@uaeh.edu.mx
Gender stereotypes are social constructs that not only shape individual perceptions but also establish differentiated norms and expectations for men and women. These constructs generate unequal power dynamics that manifest in various areas of everyday life. In this context, academia is no exception, as it reproduces hierarchical relationships where women face structural barriers and gender bias that hinder their development and recognition.

In light of these inequalities, it is essential to make visible the struggles of women to dismantle essentialist and naturalized ideas that associate certain behaviors and roles with the biological body. This text explores specific aspects of women's resistance to gender stereotypes, acknowledging the progress made while not overlooking the persistent challenges. In particular, it analyzes how these power dynamics operate within academia and contribute to ongoing inequalities that affect women’s access, retention, and recognition in this and other social spaces.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7619Knowledge management in professional formation: theoretical reflections2025-07-04T13:58:59+00:00Yenisleidys Clark González economia422@trdcaribe.co.cuYunia Doval Gómeznativosstudio@nauta.cuCaridad Alonso Camaraza caryalonso25@gmail.com
The present paper reflects about the nature of knowledge management in professional formation, since Higher Education is endowed with the responsibility of educating competent professionals, capable of profiting the most from diverse learning environments, so that they can acquire knowledge sustained in sociocultural interrelation and scientific and technical advances. Secondly, it discusses the compatibility between the presumption of innocence and pre-trial detention in the light of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as the American Convention on Human Rights, the French Declaration of Human Rights and the Penitentiary Regulations promulgated by the Royal Decree of 1996.

Finally, the presumption of innocence and guilt is analyzed in the light of the pronouncements of various lawyers and the judgments of the ECA.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7620Collective bargaining agreement2025-07-04T14:17:58+00:00Francisco Ramosramosmolinaf8@gmail.com
This work is mainly based on the analysis of the collective bargaining agreement, as a conciliatory instrument between the employer and the worker, taking into consideration the evolutionary and historical part, which tries to frame the normative element that is translated into a series of provisions of permanence in time, where it happens to regulate the individual labor relations in the companies. In this sense, we analyze the studies and recommendations made by the International Labor Organization, to give security to the labor regime and therefore provide efficiency in the development of this collective tool. We have undertaken this study on the application of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, where we clearly state that this tool, once its procedural or rigorous stages have been fulfilled, cannot deteriorate the working conditions or affect the contributions subscribed by the parties that sign it.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/6369Legal Condition of work on Digital Platforms2024-11-19T15:33:04+00:00Raúl Jordán Guzmánraul.jordan@up.ac.pa
This article examines the impact of digital platforms on the nature of work and labor rights, presenting the evolution of these platforms and their classification, as well as the legal challenges faced by workers, who often lack social protection and labor rights. Various international legislations are also discussed, highlighting models of protection and deregulation, such as the cases of Uber in the UK and the "Rider Law" in Spain. Emphasis is placed on the ambiguity in the classification of workers as self-employed or employees, which complicates their access to fundamental rights. This publication advocates the creation of a regulatory framework that recognizes a "third status" for these workers, guaranteeing rights and social protection without sacrificing labor flexibility. This approach is crucial to address labor precarization in the digital economy and ensure a balance between innovation and social justice at work.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7621Digitalization and Accounting Applications in the Financial and Fiscal Management of Panamanian Companies2025-07-04T14:29:11+00:00Juan Hernández juanhernandez_01@yahoo.es
In Panama, economic growth, tax regulations and digital transformation, among other factors, have driven the search for strategies for efficient and effective financial management. There are few publications that link the adoption of accounting software for the efficient management of financial statements with the strengthening of basic technical competencies, specific organizational competencies, as well as digital transversal competencies in the human resources that make use of these computer programs; however, there are few publications that document the use and management of accounting applications in fiscal management. This is a non-experimental, descriptive, explanatory research. The information and data obtained have as sources: documents from public entities, multilateral organizations, websites, specialized magazines, digital repositories of universities, theses, digital media. In its development, various methods were applied, from historical, comparative analysis, periodization to descriptive statistics, probability theory and time series analysis. The conclusion reveals that the economic equilibrium addendum maintains a good correlation with the variability of the IPMC, although neither the quantity nor the amounts demanded are justified given the high stability of prices in the national and construction market. The economic balance in the contracting of state infrastructure works contained in Law 61 of 2017 constitutes a cost and price indexation measure that has become an onerous fiscal burden that between 2015-2022 demanded more than 3 billion dollars. n addition, the trend of the value of the addenda is increasing, despite the historical stability shown by market prices reflected through the CPI and the CPI.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7095Factors affecting drug trafficking, arms trafficking and human trafficking 2025-04-13T01:29:49+00:00Aida Valdésaida.valdes@up.ac.paLaysa Reidlaysa.reid@up.ac.paCarlos Caballerocarlos.caballeroo@up.ac.pa
Drug trafficking, arms trafficking and human trafficking are interrelated phenomena that seriously affect security and development in Latin America. With the objective of investigating the interactions between these factors and assessing their implications for public policy and regional security. A documentary analysis of government reports, academic studies and journalistic sources was conducted. The findings indicate that drug and arms trafficking fuel human trafficking, creating a cycle of violence and exploitation. Arms and narcotics control policies have been insufficient to address the root of the problem, revealing the need for a more integrated and multidimensional approach. In conclusion, the interconnection between these phenomena requires a coordinated response that includes international cooperation and the strengthening of local institutions, suggesting that policies should focus on prevention and victim protection to achieve a significant impact on the reduction of these crimes in the region.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7687The ecosystemic meta-principle: a new perspective on complex thinking in social science teaching 2025-07-10T16:12:34+00:00Shirley Lizeth Oviedo MercadoShirleyoviedo.est@umecit.edu.pa
The ecosystemic meta-principle, as a new perspective within complex thinking applied to the didactics of social sciences, arises from the need to overcome the fragmentation of knowledge in the teaching of this discipline and to promote an education that considers the interconnection, interdependence, and feedback of social systems. Through a qualitative research study with a case study design conducted in educational institutions in Soledad (Atlántico, Colombia), it was identified that current teaching methods lack an integrative and contextualized vision. The study revealed that, although teachers implement various didactic strategies, students do not always feel heard or understood, creating a gap in meaningful learning and emphasizing the need for a renewed approach to complex thinking.
2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societashttps://revistas.up.ac.pa/index.php/societas/article/view/7853Editorial2025-07-30T20:44:33+00:00Abdiel Rodríguez Reyesabdiel.rodriguez@up.ac.pa2025-07-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Societas
