Open access policies
OPEN ACCESS STATEMENT
Índigo Panamá is a scientific journal specializing in design, architecture, art, and museums. It is a specialized scientific publication, published semiannually, January–June / July–December, by the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the San Miguelito Regional University Center, University of Panama. Índigo Panamá is no longer a journal focused on academic outreach and curricular extension activities, but has grown to become a scientific journal in four areas.
Índigo Panamá is an open access journal, free of charge without restrictions, as all its articles are available online to all readers. Open access allows for greater visibility and readership of the contributions published in Índigo Panamá, in addition to streamlining the publication process.
PUBLICATION POLICY
Índigo Panama provides open access to all its articles, and there is no cost for the editorial process. It does not charge for publication, nor does it undertake to compensate authors, as they grant it the right to publish their articles. This journal does not pursue profit-making activities. Every author who submits an article for publication in this journal assumes acceptance of the publication policies. There is also no payment or other benefit to the reviewer involved in this process.
It provides immediate open access to its content based on the principle of making research freely available to the public, which fosters a greater global exchange of knowledge.
When an author submits an article for publication in the journal, it is expected that it has not been previously published and has not been submitted for consideration by another publication. Therefore, it must comply with the criteria of being original and unpublished, adhering to the citation and referencing standards. Índigo Panama does not apply article processing fees (APCs).
AUTHOR AND READER RIGHTS POLICY
Authors retain their copyright at all times over their published contributions. Copyright policies assume the condition of quoting the author(s) of any content reproduced in whole or in part, as long as the information is not used for commercial purposes. This recognizes the intellectual property of the author(s) and the University of Panama, as the publishing entity.
The assignment of copyright implies the assignment of property rights by the authors of the published articles, and the journal may publish them electronically. Índigo Panamá does not request payment from authors for the editorial process or for publishing, nor from readers for access to the scientific information found on the University of Panama Journal Portal (revistas.up.ac.pa).
REVIEW POLICY
Índigo Panamá evaluates all manuscripts through a rigorous, transparent, and equitable peer review process, which includes the eventual disclosure (two years after the article's publication) of the examiners' identities.
PUBLISHING LICENSE POLICIES
Índigo Panamá adopts the following Creative Commons publishing license:
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
Terms:
BY - Attribution: Appropriate credit must be given, including a link to the license, and an indication of any changes. This may be done in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests endorsement by the licensor of the work or its use. NC - NonCommercial: The material may not be used for commercial purposes.
SA - ShareAlike: If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contribution under the same license as the original.
DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICY
The journal's editorial management is carried out using OPEN JOURNAL SYSTEMS (OJS) software, which has been enabled with the CLOKSS and LOCKSS plugins for digital preservation and restoration purposes.
OAI: OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) is a protocol used for the transmission of metadata on the Internet.
The OAI was created to develop standards to facilitate the interoperability of content on the Internet. Therefore, it is not a project focused on scientific publications, but rather on the communication of metadata on any electronic medium.
COMMUNICATION POLICY
Both the Editorial Committee and the authors of the Índigo Panamá journal are committed to promoting and inspiring strategies for access to and use of the articles, so that the university community understands the value of the information contained in the different issues of the publication. To this end, once published, they will be disseminated through various institutional and personal social media channels and/or through academic events held at the institution and within the academic unit.
ANTI-PLAGIARISM POLICY
Índigo Panamá considers plagiarism to include both the theft and misappropriation of intellectual property and the unattributed verbatim copying of the substance of a person's work. Therefore, all manuscripts received are verified by the Editor-in-Chief, who submits them to semantic coincidence analysis using the iThenticate anti-plagiarism software, purchased by the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Postgraduate Studies.
If a similarity of up to 21% is detected, the manuscript will be returned to the author for the necessary modifications and returned to the journal for further review.
If the semantic coincidence detected by the software is more than 21% similarity, the manuscript will be rejected entirely without the right to resubmit.
The journal Índigo Panamá penalizes plagiarism and fraudulent data in documents, publishing the same article in more than one journal, copying and using textual information from any document, using data, images, and other resources without authorization from all the natural or legal authors of the work, using information that has not been consulted from the original source by any of the authors of the document, modifying or distorting the meaning and context of information contained in other works, as well as any other inappropriate use that alters the integrity of the information.
If the similarity is 100%, the author(s) will be sanctioned with a three-year (minimum) ban from publishing in the journal Índigo Panamá.
ETHICAL PUBLICATION POLICIES
The journal Índigo Panamá ensures that editors, reviewers, and authors rigorously follow international ethical standards during the review and publication process of manuscripts.
The journal's ethical guidelines are aligned with those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Any work that does not adhere to these recommendations and is found to be misconduct will be retracted, depending on the manuscript's status at the time the ethical violations were detected.
