This study made it possible to compare the academic average of seventh grade students that came from the unigrade and multigrade classrooms at the Manuel Maria Tejada Roca High School. The high school is located in the province of Los Santos, which is located in the district of Las Tablas in the republic of Panama. The academic averages obtained were studied: prior to admission, during the first trimester and at the end of the seventh grade, as well as the failure data by subject.
The statistical program applied was the analysis of variance (ANOVA). In the multiple comparisons, the Tukey Test was used and it was systematized with the statistical package SPSS version 20. The selected sample comprised 148 students, of which 111 come from unigrade schools and 37 of multigrade.
From the analysis of the data, it is observed that there are no significant differences in terms of the general averages, however, at the subject level (Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Spanish and English), students from unigrade schools show a significant advantage. From the record of failures by subject, there are no clear differences between one group and another.
