This research includes an analysis of the opinions expressed by 182 students. The sample was administered through an online survey to both male and female students, mostly between 20 and 21 years old, from 13 higher-level programs, who study at the Universidad de Guadalajara, a Mexican state university. The topics analyzed were the elements of citizenship training that students identified within the curricular and extracurricular activities and the importance they give to citizenship training in their professional profile. The objective was to contrast the intentions embodied in institutional policies regarding citizenship education and the reality perceived by students. The questions asked to the students were about the inclusion of topics related to Ethics, Human Rights, Inclusion, Environmental Care and Social Responsibility in their professional training. The study was conducted with undergraduate students of the University Center for Economic-Administrative Sciences, the most populated of the Universidad de Guadalajara, one of the largest state universities in Latin America. The findings allow us to affirm that there is a wide gap between the institution’s objectives established on citizenship training for students and the perception they have on the daily reality on campus. To conclude, it is proposed the implementation of policies to rethink the educational model based on the definition of a graduated citizens profile.
