Abstract

This descriptive research tried to find out the skills and strategies associated to the communicative competence achieved by the students of second year majoring in Primary Education in the Regional Campus of University of Veraguas. The study analyzed fundamental aspects of the reading skill, the evaluation of reading comprehension, reading speed and vocabulary.  Four types of tests were applied to all students, finding out a significant flaws in reading comprehension of texts and in oral and written communicative skills. These flaws might be solved by the implementation of a permanent program throughout the entire academic year.
