Documentary and historical research on some history of agrochemical pollution in Panama and the mechanisms for their regulation was made. The results show that the problem of contamination by agrochemicals in Panama dates back to 1960, marking the increased use of pesticides and fertilizers that resulted from the Green Revolution. The values of imported pesticides and fertilizers during the period of showed a trend of exponential growth. In the mid 1980s, of studies warning of high residuals of agrochemicals would consequently bring the presence of the same residuals in products of human consumption. In 1993-1994, Azuero studies had shown the presence of atrazine residues in soil and water sources of farms. Internationally it has been shown that regu-lation of pollution from agrochemicals must utilize economic instruments of in combination with command and control instruments.
