Abstract

University volunteering represents a form of altruism; this behavioral expression typifies the social cognitions about groups or individuals and the motivational focuses of each person. Including volunteering into the academic experience would guarantee professionals who are committed to the search of a common benefit, to the protection of vulnerable groups and social integration. We are observing a growing number of institutions betting on creating volunteering spaces into their installations, as in the case of the University of Panama. Organizations such as AIESEC Panama and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) are generating joint projects to further enrich their professional experience and guarantee community awareness, allowing them to return the accumulation of knowledge being acquired.
