The authorities of the University of Panama have had a remarkable interest in being involved in the nationwide efforts taking place in favor of the conservation of the biodiversity in our country. In this sense, taking into account the ecological relevance of the forest section located in the field of Centro Regional Universitario de Los Santos, it has been decided to carry out the studies for the support of the efforts that aim at establishing a university ecological reserve. The document here presented is a step forward for the achievement of the con-servation “in situ” of the valuable resources of an ecosystem that is in the process of disappearing in the Pacific Mesoamerican Watershed. The records made show that this forest area is inhabited for at least 158 species of plants and animals. Among the species identified, 22 of them are considered to be in danger of extinction and this is the reason why they have been included in the national regulations (ANAM) and in the international ones as well (UICN and CITES) for the sake of protection. In addition to the protected species mentioned above, it is interesting to point out the existence of at least 8 species of migratory birds which proves the relevance this forest has as a source of nature reserve and food for the wild fauna. Because of the ecological relevance and the potential use this forest has, basic guidelines have been defined to contribute with the preparation of the ma-nagement plan for the nature reserve.
