Abstract

The audit of health services activities is a process that seeks to document, to verify, through objective evidence, the implementation and development of a Quality System. The results of the audit of clinical records, Veraguas Health Region, are analyzed. It is a descriptive study, the universe corresponds to ten facilities of the Ministry of Health, of the First Level of attention of the province of Veraguas (Calobre, Guarumal, La Mesa, La Peña, Las Palmas, Los Ruíces, Mariato, Río de Jesús, Río Luis and Santa Fe). The instrument was applied to the study population: children under 1 year of age, children between 1 and 5 years of age, pregnant women, and patients with chronic diseases. The sample size was calculated in relation to the universe provided, with a confidence level of 95%, an error of 5%, and a ratio of 50%. The data obtained is recorded in the Computer Program for Capture and Consolidation of the Ministry of Health Record Audit, which uses a quality of care index. In all health facilities, in children under one year of age, there was excellent quality in the evaluation of growth and development, nutritional status, and vaccination.  For pregnant women, 80% of the facilities have a good quality of care and 20% have a fair quality of care. In the evaluation of chronic diseases, it is reported that this important at-risk population group has, on average, a limited quality of care in pathologies such as arterial hypertension and diabetes.  A good quality of care index in the population under one year of age is the result of the integration and knowledge of the standards of care in this population group.
