The use of pesticides requires appropriate technical knowledge, to prevent problems for the environment and people. The objective of this research was to determine the perception of the health effects caused by pesticides in the community of Villa Lourdes de Los Santos, through a survey, where our universe of farmers is 20, through a descriptive, cross-sectional study; with a non-experimental design. Of the chosen sample, 75% of the men apply pesticides directly, putting their health at risk. 95% of the applicators are conscious that their health will be affected and may contract cancer, but 85% do not know the symptoms of poisoning by these chemicals. With these results, regulations can be directed that can make the production and well-being of the inhabitants of this agricultural community. This investigation showed that a minority percentage of the applicators have the perception of knowing about the effects on health caused by the use and inappropriate handling of pesticides, the same way that they have the risk of suffering from cancer; however, they do not attend for health check-ups; a significant percentage of pesticide applicators are aware of the risks, but do not take biosecurity measures to protect themselves.
