Coreidae is a cosmopolitan bug’s family, being more diverse in the tropical regions with more than 2000 described species worldwide. One of the subfamilies that compose this family, Meropachydinae includes three tribes; Meropachydini (Stål, 1867), Spathophorini (Stål, 1854) and Merocorini (Stål, 1870), all of them restricted to the Western Hemisphere. A strange specimen belonging to the genus Acocopus (Spathphorini) was collected in the community of Achiote, Colon province, Panama, identified as Acocopus verrucifer (Stål, 1864). When we compared additional specimens present in different national and international entomological collections some slightly different specimens are found by the second author. After examination of all the specimens founded, we concluded that both A. verrucifer y Acocopus gigantea (Schmidt 1911) are similar species. In this contribution, geographical distribution throughout the Republic of Panama as well as the South American region is given. Examined material, illustration of adult habitus and other relevant details for each species are presented.
