Counting fecal groups methodology for the population of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) was implemented in the core zone of La Tigra National Park, Honduras, in four linear transects 250 m long and 12 m wide, the time sampling was the year 2007-2009 during the rainy season (September-November) and dry season (March-May). The method used to estimate the density at the four transects was from the formula DP = (NP)(PG)/(TP)(TD) proposed by Eberdhardt and Van Etten in 1956. The defecation rate established for white-tailed deer and their implementation in subsequent years show that this methodology can be implemented and used in Honduras as well as used in different countries such as Mexico and the United States for management and conservation. The results in this study did not attempt to estimate the population of white-tailed deer in the core area of the PN La Tigra, but showing that its implementation is feasible not only in the PN La Tigra but in the rest of the country. This study aims to contribute to get involve, authorities, students and hunters to work together and establish the basis to develop strategies for a research program oriented to the management and conservation of white-tailed deer in the wild in the country.
