In 2009, Act 26.485, was enacted in Argentina to prevent, punish and eradicate violence against women in all areas of their lives. The law promoted the creation of gender areas in state agencies in the health, security, labor, justice and social development sectors, in order to generate and implement public policies aimed at preventing and eradicating gender based violence. Ten years after the sanction of the Act, the objective of this work is to analyze, from a gender perspective, the public policies implemented, the achievements, the obstacles to overcome, and the future challenges, as well as, the changes in values and traditions, necessary to transform a culture based in male domination and female subordination, into a culture of autonomy and respect for the dignity of individuals. It is an exploratory descriptive study from a qualitative perspective. The information comes from interviews with key informants, the analysis of documents published by the bodies involved and the management reports sent by the States, to the international organizations in charge of monitoring compliance within the commitments made.
