Abstract

Invisibilization of racism is evident in Panamá, although its effects are clearly exposed in day to day practices that may appear normal or innocent. These practices have constant and violently disturbed Afropanamanian people life over the course of national history. The implications of racism are and have been present in the social, cultural and political scenarios defining inequalities in terms of rights and opportunities.

With the focus on gender perspective, the goal is to identify and analyze power and domination relationships in which Afropanamanian women are involved. Nevertheless, the complex network of strategies developed by the society to provide different opportunities to women makes them face an unfair market of competences, along with a strong impact on their subjectivity, mostly due to being Afropanamanian. Pointing to propitiate new research in the national academy, the article includes some methodological issues and results of an anthropological inquire about the situation of Afropanamanian women.
