Abstract

The avocado is one of the main agro-export items produced in Peru, while the mandarin represents 88% of the citrus fruits exported in the country. Pest arthropods are a threat to the proper development of crops, therefore, knowing these pests is of vital importance, to establish management strategies that effectively contribute to mitigating their possible impacts on the economy, the environment and the social welfare of productive areas. This research aimed to identify pest arthropods in avocado (Persea americana Mill.) and tangerine (Citrus spp.) agroecosystems in Cañete Valley, Lima, Peru. For this, field trips were carried out in 48 farms. For every 10 hectares of cultivation, one hectare was randomly selected and 20 trees per hectare were checked to determine the pest presence. The specimens were photographed and collected manually, preserving them in glass vials with 70% ethanol for their respective identification in the laboratory. According to the results, Oligonychus sp. (Acari: Tetranychidae), Fiorinia fioriniae (Targioni Tozzetti, 1867) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae), Pinnaspis aspidistrae (Signoret, 1869) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) and Oiketicus kirbyi Guilding, 1827 (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) were found in avocado; while in tangerine, the predominant pests were Phyllocoptruta oleivora (Ashmead, 1879) (Acari: Eriophyidae), Aphis spiraecola Patch, 1914 (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and Phylloctnistis citrella Stainton, 1856 (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae). The most frequent pest was P. citrella, which reached up to 50%, followed by A. spiraecola with 40% and Oligonychus sp. with 35%. In conclusion, four pest arthropods were identified in avocado and three in tangerine.
