Abstract

The species Crotophaga major has a length of 44 cm, it is the largest of its genus, it has white eyes and the upper jaw arched upwards which gives it the shape of a protuberance on the beak, it has bright dark blue plumage. It is distributed from Darién to the west of the province of Colón. Little is known about the feeding habits of C. major; However, it is possible that it plays an important role as a predator of other species. In the present work we present the first report of predation of C. major, which occurred in the Santa Ana district, province of Los Santos, Republic of Panama. The sighting occurred on November 26 at 2:11 pm. It was documented with photographs using a Canon Powershot SX 540 HS camera. Firstly, sound recognition was carried out corroborated by the Merlin application, then the photographic record was taken where the predation of Crotophaga major on the frog Trachycephalus tiphonius was confirmed for the first time.
