Abstract

This study aims at leading the literature professor to take into account the insights of the students of the English department regarding reading to use them in curricular planning. To carry out this research, a multiple-choice 10-item questionnaire was prepared. The results obtained indicated that the students would be willing to exchange their books, they would enjoy participating in reading circles, in reading books in digital platforms for free; yet, they expressed their preference to read them from their books in their spare time. In addition, it was reflected that the fiction genre showed 54% of preference, while non-fiction showed 43%. Additionally, it was revealed that before reading a book, 52% read the summary and 44% checked the number of pages.  One of the factors that does not motivate them to read is their lack of interest, however; after reading they realized that they experienced an increase in vocabulary and reflection. It was concluded that knowing the students´ opinions regarding reading, the professor should consider them for planning, adapting methodological techniques and technological tools that go hand in hand with the students´ needs.
