Abstract

The novel A través del tormento of the Panamanian writer Francisco Clarck is a fictionalized testimony of the affections suffered by the author, victim of an ankylosis (whose causes were unknown at the beginning of the 20th century). Such is the suffering of the character in mention that he himself cannot write his work, instead he dictated it to a girl who visited him every evening. In the work, Clarks describes in detail the different sufferings of which he is a victim, the doctors' failed judgments, even. It is a psychological book. The narrator does not ask for mercy, or help. On the contrary he hides his sufferings in order to not affect the people around him.
