In this short descriptive research, analysis is made if those coming from the Primary Education Program at the University of Panama, campuses of Azuero and Los Santos (CRUA and CRULS) have the mathematical kno-wledge required to teach this course in elementary schools. First, students attending the last half of the major in Primary Education at CRUA and CRULS were selected, especially those taking the Math Teaching Course. Then a two-parts test was administered to them, the first part aimed at getting general academic information; the se-cond, at determining the level of domain of the basic math skills learned during the majoring: Numbers, Geo-metry, Measures and Statistics. Once descriptively analyzed, the results showed that the participants had difficulties in all the areas, especially in Measures, in which the students’ level of difficulty revealed being high. In addition to this, the working hypothesis was statistically tested and obtained according to the evidence of the sample analysis and a significance level of 5%. This showed that the Mathematics average of students coming from the major in Primary Education was 28.0, which is significantly less than 71 (based on 100 as a reference).
