The objective of this study is to characterize the emotional competencies to face the consequences of Covid-19 in a group of university students. Historical-logical and analytical-synthetic methods were used as theoretical methods, and sentence completion, survey and in-depth interview as empirical methods. The sample consisted of 20 students from Sociocultural Management for Development at the University of Pinar del Río. The results reveal the difficulties in knowing one's own emotions and in adequately managing the negative emotions linked to the harrowing experiences of Covid-19; showing as characteristics of emotional competencies, the lack of emotional autonomy, emotional self-awareness and emotional regulation. It is concluded that the development of emotional competencies in the group studied is insufficient to face the consequences of Covid-19, so a system of workshops is proposed to strengthen the development of emotional competencies in the post-pandemic university context.
