The recognition and enforcement of international arbitral awards are fundamental to the legitimacy of the arbitration system. There is no point in having a favorable award if it cannot be later recognized and enforced. This article covers the recent development of Panamanian legislation and jurisprudence on the matter, examining the main challenges to the recognition and enforcement of international awards in Panama.
