Adoption is an old institution, which arises from civil law, with psychological, social and legal implications. It is a source of civil kinship, that is, it recognizes as a son or daughter a person who is not biologically a son or daughter for legal purposes.
Long ago, adoption was seen as an act of charity. As an answer to infertility problems of conjugal couples.
Today, adoption is a solution so that minors can have their right to family cohabitation satisfied.
