The mass media of social communication are the largest and most influential producers of meaning within the cultural industries. In this sector, the written press is one of the products that has greater credibility and incidence, in establishing the thematic agenda of public opinion. This article specifically studies the discourses of the written press in Panama, which use textual and visual narratives, which exhibit violence against women without context. The methodology was the qualitative content analysis of a copy of the tabloid newspaper El Siglo, selected for its sensationalist approach and for its scope and impact on panamanian society. As a finding, different types of content and forms of symbolic violence against women were detected, such as sexist stereotypes, sexual exploitation and the revictimization of women and their families, in cases of femicide. Likewise, the discursive resources used in the violent contents towards women were identified, in five sections of the newspaper: Front Page, Red Chronicle, Curiosities, International and Back Cover. Finally, questions are presented about the economic income that these contents represent for the media and about the role played by public institutions, responsible for guaranteeing the human rights of women in Panama. It concludes with the proposal to deepen the study and dialogue around this problem, from the critical and ethical perspective of human rights.
