Abstract

This study delves into the context of the masculinity problem, a crucial topic in the social sciences that has gained increasing relevance in recent years due to transformations in gender dynamics and social relationships. Masculinity has become a vital area of research, as understanding how it is constructed, experienced, and negotiated can shed light on fundamental issues in contemporary society. To address this analysis, a state-of-the-art methodology was applied, involving the review of selected academic articles from various databases. These articles were evaluated and synthesized to identify trends, areas of interest, and common challenges in masculinity research. The results revealed a significant growth in interest in the subject of masculinity within the social sciences. This increase in academic attention suggests a greater awareness of the importance of understanding how social constructions of masculinity impact individuals and communities in different cultural and geographical contexts. However, despite the growth in research, significant difficulties in reaching solid theoretical consensus were also evident. Conceptual and methodological approaches vary widely, making it challenging to compare and synthesize findings. This lack of conceptual clarity and diversity of perspectives has limited the ability to translate masculinity research into effective public policies.
