This article analyzes the role of the social worker in the community boards of Panama, identifying opportunities and challenges based on the principles of the social work discipline to strengthen community support through these community organizations. The research that gave rise to this document was guided by the qualitative paradigm with an Exploratory documentary review methodology, envisioning the opportunities and challenges of performance within the Community Boards in the context of the Republic of Panama during the third decade of the 21st century. It was found that these organizations are a fertile field for professional intervention practice, with opportunities to promote solidarity, democracy and self-management based on specific functions. There are also challenges such as the formation of social networks, project management and processes that reach resources for management through social legal training processes of the Boards and the capacities that governments give them.
