As part of the process of changes in extension work at the University of Panama, from October 2016 to September 2021, the University Wednesday Forum project constituted a best practice in extension work, representative of the institutional changes in this mission. Through the methodology of systematizing experiences, the aim is to reconstruct the experience of conception, organization, and development of forty forums on various national and social problem areas. Through a critical interpretation of everything carried out, significant lessons emerge that call for the appropriation of the lessons learned. The Forum achieved institutionalization, considered one of the most relevant at the national level. Through this extension practice, the university managed to become a space for convening, meeting, and debating, perceiving itself as more accessible, trustworthy, and engaging, and committed to the interests and problems of society. The university institution set out to fulfill one of the paradigms of its original mission: to serve as a forum for the study of national problems, convening diverse social actors for discussion and the search for guidance that responds to the difficulties facing the country.
