Abstract

The area where the mandible articulates with the temporal bone of the skull is called the temporomandibular joint. This can be affected by disorders that generate pain, chewing problems and other symptoms. For the diagnosis, a comprehensive assessment of all the components of the joint must be made and also, use imaging techniques that facilitate the identification of the clinical picture that afflicts the patient. In this article, a review and update of the different imaging methods with which the temporomandibular joint is evaluated was made in order to present the different tools available to the dentist for diagnosis. Each resource was detailed with its usefulness for the differentiation of disorders, thus providing multiple options to the professional in treatment planning.
