Phleboliths are a type of soft tissue calcification, specifically related to vascular malformations. In this review article we will compile bibliographic information about soft tissues calcifications associated with phleboliths, in order to identify the different calcifications that can occur in the soft tissues of the head and neck, to relate vascular lesions, such as hemangioma, with phleboliths and to inquire about the radiological differential diagnosis between phleboliths and sialoliths. Thanks to the bibliographic review, it was found that phleboliths are generally asymptomatic and are usually detected by accident in routine imaging examinations such as panoramic radiography in dentistry. Although they can go unnoticed because of their clinical characteristics and because they are not directly related to the profession, it is important that the dentist knows how to identify them radiographically in order to refer the patient to the appropriate specialist and thus ensure the patient's overall health.
