One of the most frequent causes of the appearance of white spots on tooth enamel is the presence of bacterial plaque around fixed orthodontic appliances for several days. Decalcification of enamel adjacent to orthodontic appliances is an iatrogenic effect of fixed orthodontic appliances. Decalcification of enamel adjacent to orthodontic appliances is an iatrogenic effect of fixed orthodontic appliances. The use of orthodontic bands and Brackets increases the places where plaque can accumulate more easily and therefore dental hygiene is difficult. The pH of the bacterial plaque adjacent to fixed orthodontic appliances is lower, which makes the remineralization process difficult and enamel decalcification can occur. Through observation of the intraoral photographs of orthodontics patients completed before March 2019 in the dental specialties clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Panama, the prevalence of white spot lesions they had at the end of the treatment was determined.
