Macroinvertebrates play a crucial role in the food web of aquatic systems by accelerating the decomposition of organic matter, thereby facilitating nutrient utilization. This study was conducted at the Los Algarrobos recreational site on the Coclé del Sur River, located in the La Pintada corregimiento and district, Coclé Province. The objectives were to determine the spatial and temporal diversity of macroinvertebrates at the site and to analyze the influence of the dry and rainy seasons on the abundance and diversity of these organisms. Five field trips were conducted between january and may 2025; six sampling stations were established where leaf litter samples were collected and sweep-netting was performed covering edges, bottoms, currents, and pools to collect macroinvertebrates once a month at each station. Margalef’s index was used to estimate species richness, and Simpson’s index was used to determine community dominance. A total of 3,786 individuals were collected, distributed across 8 orders, 28 families, 3 subfamilies, and 33 genera. The most prominent orders were Diptera, followed by Ephemeroptera and Hemiptera. The most abundant subfamilies were Orthocladiinae, Chironominae, and Tanypodinae. The most abundant genera were Farrodes sp., Caenis sp., and Tricorythodes sp. Insect abundance and diversity were higher during the dry season than during the rainy season. It as concluded that that the Los Algarrobos site on the Coclé del Sur River, La Pintada, Coclé supports high spatial and temporal diversity of macroinvertebrates, with greater organism abundance and diversity observed during the dry season compared to the rainy season.
