Cadmium contamination in soils poses risks to human health and the environment due to its toxicity, persistence and bioaccumulation. This study validated an analytical methodology for cadmium determination in soils using continuous-source flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, aligned with EPA 3050A guidelines and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 performance requirements. Selectivity, linearity, sensitivity, detection and quantification limits, precision, accuracy and robustness were assessed. The method showed excellent linearity (R² = 0.9999), a LOD of 0.00095 mg/L and recoveries between 94% and 102%, with variability below the Horwitz expected limits. Overall, the results support the method’s suitability for routine cadmium analysis in soils within the IDIAP Soil Laboratory quality assurance framework.
