Abstract

Social relevance is related to many aspects, there is social relevance in higher education institutions when they adapt their knowledge to the surrounding social context, influencing the solution of the problems of national, regional and local communities; seeking new talents to the labor sector and including cultures, science and technology. This research is an exercise to determine the social relevance of Social Work, at the present time that this career celebrates 73 years in Panama. The current context of globalization and pandemic makes it necessary to review the training of the social worker, rethinking whether with traditional methods, and the skills obtained so far, it is possible to successfully intervene in the social issue. The study included the participation of key actors belonging to the three universities that offer the career of Social Work in the Republic of Panama, namely: students, teachers, and a representation of professionals and employers.
