Abstract

This research focuses on the emotional fatigue that comes from the health care of another, and how this affects hospital volunteers within the main hospitals in Panama. Compassion fatigue and also known as compassion wear or empathy fatigue, or Secondary Traumatic Stress, has been poorly studied in Panama, specifically in hospital volunteer groups. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) together with the Ministry of Health of Panama, (MINSA), mentions some actions of the health system, such as: “Implement institutional changes at the level of the health workers monitoring system (particularly to prevent vicarious trauma, Burnout syndrome and Compassion Fatigue”). This leads us to think about this problem in Panama, within the group of hospital volunteers that Compassion Fatigue can be measured since there is little evidence of scientific evidence. Therefore, a psychometric measurement will be carried out with Cronbach's Alpha and Factor Analysis, in order to obtain the reliability of the internal consistency of the Compassion and Satisfaction Fatigue Questionnaire- (ProQOL-vIV).
