Abstract

This research was applied to family members of cancer patients from the Instituto Oncológico Nacional who fulfill the role of primary caregiver and presented high levels of anxiety as a consequence of their role; with the objective of determining the effectiveness of a psychotherapeutic group treatment in said population.

The research was based on the hypothesis that primary caregivers who present high levels of Anxiety associated with the role and participate in a Brief Group Psychotherapeutic Intervention with a Cognitive Behavioral approach, will reduce the high levels of Anxiety at the end of the intervention. A quasi-experimental research design with pre-test / post-test was chosen and applied to the experimental group and the control group. The variables were divided into independent (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy) and dependent (high levels of anxiety).

A digital form was created to register people, a virtual clinical interview was carried out to evaluate and obtain relevant information, psychometric tests were applied to determine the level of anxiety and possible psychopathologies; informed consent was signed. 31 people registered and 12 met the requirements.

Once psychotherapy was completed for the experimental group, the post-test was placed on both groups, and the intervention began on the control group whose data will not be included in this document.

The Student's t-test did not prove the statistical hypothesis, although qualitative changes could be observed in some of the participants.
