Abstract

This investigation was carried out on the beaches surrounding the town of Piña on the Costa Abajo of the province of Colón. The sampling was carried out in six stations. monthly trips were made along the beaches and coral reefs, where 1785 individuals were found, belonging to 48 species, 27 genera and 20 families. The most abundant species were: Purpura patula (Linnaeaus, 1758) with 942 individuals, Nerita tesellata (Gmelin, 1791) with 222, Littorina nebulosa (Lammark, 1822) with 178, Thais rustica (Lammark, 1822) with 90 and Thais deltoida (Lammark, 1822) with 78. There were also 13 species that had only one individual. The Williams alpha index indicated 4.33, since 48 species were collected, of which 13 species had a single individual, while the Berger-Parker index 0.524 as they dominated the species: Purpura patula (Linnaeaus, 1758) with 942 individuals, and the index of Margaleff index 14,622, which is greater than 12, 84 that was calculated for La Escucha beach at Portobelo where 7921 individuals were found, belonging to 16 families, 21 genera and 30 species (González et al, 2018).
