Abstract

This research was carried out in the La Escucha beach of Portobelo, Province of Colon, which has coral rock formations, 7921 individuals belonging to 16 families, 21 genera and 30 species of snails were collected. The largest collections were in the months of February with 1532, which represented 19%, January with 1387 (18%) and March with 1292 (16%). The value of the Williams Alpha Index was 2.72, because the average monthly collection was 12 species, the Berger-Parker average was 0.29 and 4328 individuals represented 55% of the collection. Species Nerita fulgurans (Gmelin, 1791) with 1908 (24%), followed by Nerita tesellata (Gmelin, 1791) with 1329 (17%) and Planaxis nucleus (Brugière, 1789) with 1091 (14%), Margaleff's index 12, 84, which indicated that there is a great wealth of species.
