Within high-risk scenarios and adverse conditions, such as the one generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to develop an innovative business mentality, both to create new businesses or to adapt existing businesses to more complex market dynamics. From a non-experimental type of research to 40 micro-businesses of the eight neighborhoods in the Babahoyo canton of the Province of Los Ríos, Ecuador, during February 2022, the purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of micro-businesses, it was determined that 92.5% are between a regular and bad situation. Among the impacts generated by pandemic, the 82.5% of cases, an income reduction was faced, in 5% of cases there was a reduction of personnel, in 5% of cases there was indebtedness. 70% of micro-businesses did not apply emerging strategies during the most critical time of the pandemic and only 30% applied strategies such as: Sale by telephone order, delivery to neighbors' homes. The least affected micro-businesses were those related to essential services such as pharmacy and clinical laboratories.
