The objective of the study is to establish a ranking of port capacity in terms of infrastructure and equipment in Central America and the Caribbean terminals, and how these emerging capacities can impact the regional positioning of ports handling containerized cargo. The literature review identifies various factors that influence port competitiveness. From a technical perspective, the analysis establishes that the number of port cranes and berths dedicated to handle containerized cargo, and defined as Technological Equilibrium, is the main driver of the performance of the terminals. The results and conclusions establish a larger correlation in those terminals that have more throughputs of containerized cargo and a larger number of cranes, which also generates an increasing operational efficiency in terms of time and costs.
