Abstract

Anabolic steroids are synthetic derivatives of testosterone among its multiple physiological effects we have: heart, musculoskeletal, sexual, genital, hepatic, renal and psychological. The objective is to make a general diagnosis to university students about the consumption of anabolic steroids by: age groups, consumption reasons, sources of information and their adverse effects. The sample consisted of 100 male students between 18 and 45 years of age who regularly attended the gymnasium (Campus) and the area of the (DOMO) of the University of Panama, who were given anonymous surveys of 14 closed questions: age, Route of administration, anabolic consumed, reasons to consume, sources of information used and adverse effects attributed to its use. The 68% of university students do not consume products for physical performance, and 32% if they consume them. 84% of the physical activity is carried out by young people with age ranges between 18-25 years, being the most active physical activity with 47%, aesthetics is the major reason for doing so, and information on these products Obtained via the Internet. A 96.8% of young college students do not consume anabolic steroids.
