Abstract

Tropical rain forests are a world apart, and their importance to the global ecosystem and human existence is immense. In terms of biological diversity. described the vegetation in an area of 60 meters in the area of Margarita, Colón Province, Panama located between coordinates 9 ° 19 '48.17 "N and 79 ° 53' 23.21" W. For identification more species simple sampling a plot established, within which the representative species found. 20 families were recorded in 47 tree species. The more individuals were family, Moraceae and Piperaceae with 5 species, vertical forest structure was measured, and took out two layers: emergent and canopy canopy being stratum which had the highest number of individuals (130). 3 species with the highest IVI were found: The species with the highest importance value was Cecropia peltata with (IVI = 117.55) this is due to their high abundance, dominance and frequency; while the unknown specimen (IVI = 25.16), Cocos nucifera (IVI = 23.20), These 3 species are those that best represent and characterize this forest. Finally, two species category of importance these were, Protium tenuifolium and Cordia alliodoralas which appear as Vulnerable were recorded, according to the list of ANAM (National Environmental Authority) and IUCN, and Protium tenuifolium, which is considered an endemic species.
