The activities of the Design and Construction Project of the Third Set of Locks in the Atlantic Sector produce significant impacts responsible for the loss of species and the deterioration of the soil (erosion), placing it as an Environmental Impact Study Category III. Consequently, mitigation measures presented in the environmental protection programs for biological resources are implemented, in order to guarantee their sustainability, allowing the execution of the construction activities of this mega project. The work was based on the implementation of environmental education strategies as a tool to sensitize collaborators with environmental issues, divided into three areas: Rescue and Relocation of Fauna for the attention of the diversity of vertebrate species found in the area of the Project. Design and Construction of the Third Set of Locks of the Panama Canal in the Atlantic Sector, especially of low mobility, arboreal and nocturnal terrestrial species; and the Soil Protection Program (Control of Soil Erosion) oriented for the timely implementation and implementation of the necessary measures to prevent and minimize the significant negative impacts to the environment and indirectly to the quality of the waters through the generation of sediments , mainly during the rainy season (ACP, July 2007). The monitoring of the collaborators in the different environmental programs were key pieces in the project, in this way and in its integral projection, it is observed how environmental education promotes the search to mitigate the impacts caused to the different environmental variables such as fauna and the ground, in the work of Expansion of the Panama Canal. Conserving our biological resources is our greatest wealth therefore its effectiveness should be reflected in the field activities of those involved, to provide protection of this valuable resource on the planet.
