In the Republic of Panama, the existing information on arribada beaches of olive ridley is quite low. The Azuero Peninsula is considered one of the most important nesting sites in the Panamanian Pacific, as it is in this region are the only arriving beaches of olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea), Isla Cañas and La Marinera beaches. This study was developed in Playa La Marinera, located at Tonosi county, Los Santos Province, Panama. La Marinera is a small cove, which provides approximately 700 m of shoreline sand, considered optimal for nesting sea turtles. This study intends to assess the density of nesting olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) by the quadrants method on La Marinera beach in the 2010 nesting season (July-December). This research pretends to evaluate the density of olive ridley sea turtles using Geo-statistic and Geographic Information System (GIS) to identify preferred areas for nesting on La Marinera beach, so we recommend a special management plan, which prohibits the use of the resource extraction, but allow the sustainable use of it through eco-tourism.
