Abstract

The study analyzes the concept of motivation from the perspective of two determined sets; that interact internally and externally to the subject. In view of the complexity of the concept of motivation and the essence of the human being, behavioral, humanistic and cognitive theories are valued. The first highlights the relationship between stimulus and response to people, based on manifested and observable behavior; the second highlights the qualities of the human being, their ability to develop and their freedom of choice. The third considers the subject as a whole, accepting that there are different circumstances that affect mental health. To reach the conclusion that in the teaching-learning process of the English language, motivation is an essential condition for the learner as a receiving subject, who will respond positively if the criteria or internal and external conditions also respond to their personal objectives in the acquisition of a second language.
