Abstract

Given that the university must also take responsibility, bringing social responsibility management to Panamanian universities represents a challenge, due to all the implications that they must assume. The university management system would be defined as a set made up of four specialized functional subsystems: the institutional; academic training and pedagogy; the one of production and diffusion, and the one of social participation in the sustainable human development of the community. This is in accordance with the institutional axes that materialize through other support subsystems: computer, organizational, informative, legal-regulatory, and control. With the aim of diagnosing the management of university social responsibility at the Technological University of Panama, this article presents the results obtained in 2021 through direct observation, surveys and documentary review, to perform a data triangulation. The context was represented by the University Social Service Directorate of the University as a unit of analysis, where the personnel of the area were surveyed, establishing ethical and deontological criteria in the application of the study. The results were grouped into eight factors on the use of ISO standards for the management of university social responsibility in the Institution, the current situation, the role of the four axes in this process and the plans developed by the University in this regard. It is concluded that the diagnosis made to the current state of social responsibility in the Technological University of Panama allowed to know the difficulties related to the management of the activity, confirming that its implementation has not been carried out in a systemic way, since there is no link essential between the axes that intervene in the activity, which are manifested as separate parts.
