There are few studies on alternatives to promote transparency and access to public information at the municipal level, despite the importance for citizens to know public management in clear and simple language. This knowledge is essential for citizens to use the information in decision-making at the local level.
This work addresses fields of social sciences such as transparency, which seeks active citizenship to increase trust and improve relations between the public sector and citizens through the information generated by local governments. Access to information through available media is also studied, such as the municipal website and social networks, in order to analyze the citizen participation mechanisms implemented by local authorities. This is a quantitative, non-experimental study, with a descriptive and explanatory research design.
The results demonstrate the importance of this study for the public management of local governments, considering transparency, access to public information, accountability and citizen participation as fundamental axes in municipal administration.
