The presence of mastitis was evaluated among animals from farms producing grade C milk in Tort´? and some municipalities from Dari´en, Panama. The study was cross-sectional observa- tional. Data were collected with help of surveys applied from January to December 2016, from farms located in Tort´? and Metet´?, Panama East, and Pinogana, Dari´en, respectively, and some municipalities from Chepigana, Dari´en. The objective was to estimate the productivity of farms according to the presence or absence of mastitis (clinical and subclinical) and determine its re- lationship with the variables age and education level of the owners. Multivariate techniques were used for comparative and correlation analysis. The impact of productivity was estimated conside- ring the differences between the groups determined by the presence or absence of mastitis. The results allowed us to estimate that approximately 56 % of the animals evaluated were affected by mastitis (clinical and subclinical), with direct losses of up to 30 % in the production of grade C milk among animals with clinical mastitis. It can also be deduced that older owners would be more receptive to the use of strategies that could lead to increased productivity in the region.
