Abstract

The rapid technological evolution in the financial sector has sparked growing interest in the adoption of cloud computing by cooperative financial intermediation companies in Panama. However, it is necessary to investigate and understand in depth how this technology could influence its operation and competitiveness in the local context. In this sense, the research focused on analyzing the impact of cloud computing for cooperative financial intermediation companies in Panama in the year 2023. Cloud computing has transformed the management of information technology (IT) operations. , allowing companies to access processing and storage capacity over the Internet. In Panama, cooperatives can benefit from this technology to improve their efficiency and reduce costs, which aligns with digital transformation, a crucial concept in business competitiveness. However, cooperatives face challenges in managing their IT operations, such as a lack of resources to invest in infrastructure and specialized personnel. Adopting cloud computing can help overcome these challenges by offering IT services such as data storage, processing power, and information security. Comparative analysis between on-premises and cloud infrastructure ownership costs reveals significant differences. Over four years, the cloud offers lower upfront costs and lower operating costs, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership compared to on-premise infrastructure. This shows that cloud computing is a more profitable option for financial cooperatives in Panama.
