This paper begins with some basic theoretical criteria about sustainable development and citizenship training. It examines the theoretical relationships between both aspects within the framework of higher education. It highlights that the citizenship formation of university students is increasingly important and that today it is incomplete if it does not include the goal of raising awareness about sustainable development. It emphasizes that in education, university sociocultural work integrated into teaching and scientific research plays a valuable role. From here, it presents the concept of civic-urban formation, which integrates citizenship education with efforts toward sustainable development focused on cities pursued.
