Abstract

The irregular supply of fruits and vegetables represents a significant operational challenge for supermarket chains due to the short shelf life of these products, supply dispersion, and coordination failures between production, demand, quality, and safety. To highlight the study's importance, the objective is to determine the indirect and induced effects of horticultural, fruit, and tuber production. To address the irregular supply situation, the research designed and implemented a strategic agricultural planning system in 2012, which organized the supplier chain for the Grupo Rey-Romero-Mr. Precio in Cerro Punta, Volcán, Dolega, and El Ejido. Using a purposive sample of 101 producers, the initial diagnosis recorded 25.8% functional compliance, 44.3% under-compliance, and 29.9% excess; through the intervention, these figures were improved to meet the proposed objectives. Subsequently, in 2026, the collected data were analyzed using the Leontief model, quantifying direct, indirect, and induced impacts. This demonstrated that such planning is functional, measurable, and replicable for stimulating Panama's primary and secondary sectors.
